As-builts for Asset Management

An essential part of Digital Twin workflows for Asset Management is utilizing the scanned as-builts to tag your equipment rather than just the CAD models that may not be up to date. This allows users to link physical equipment or parts to their digital counterpart, and in combination with other business data, make decisions which optimize the process and performance.

The Reality Capture data also provides the context, which the CAD model does not. What is going on around a machine or equipment in the built environment may affect accessibility when repairs or replacement must happen. This context from the Reality Capture data also validates that the model or twin is accurate, and therefore reliable, or not. When built on top of reality data, Asset Management’s decision-making process is greatly improved by increasing the organization’s efficiency, effectiveness and safety as well as reducing rework and downtime.

Asset Tags in Cintoo Cloud

A ‘tag’ in Cintoo Cloud references an object or equipment that has a unique ID, an XYZ location, a bounding box, and various metadata, and which will be used in your Asset Management workflows.

A tag is part of a list. There can be several lists of tags in a single Cintoo Cloud project. Metadata for a tag refers to its attributes such as labels, class of tags, description, hyperlinks to Digital Twin, ERP and EAM platforms.

Tags can be searched based on any content listed in the ID and the metadata. Each tag can be seen from 1 or more scan positions, or from any 3D position in the mesh-based scan data. Lists of tags can be exported from Cintoo Cloud together with the scan or 3D view corresponding to each tag of the list. Lists of tags and individual tags can be updated programmatically using Cintoo Cloud APIs (refer to this article).

Tags can be viewed in their as-built context using Cintoo Cloud’s 3D View.

Permissions

Cintoo Cloud’s Asset Tagging & Display toolset is associated with 2 permissions:

  • Manage tags: Import, create, edit and delete tags
    • Default setting: Permission given to BIM / VDC Managers
  • View tags: View and export tags
    • Default setting: Permission given to BIM / VDC Managers and Engineers / Modelers

Project Managers, Admins or Co-Admins can create custom roles to extend these permissions to other categories. (refer to this article)

Tag Capacity

To use Cintoo Cloud’s Asset Tagging & Display toolset, you must be entitled with a certain ‘tag capacity’, the same way that you need a certain ‘scan capacity’ to upload scans.

All Cintoo Cloud accounts will have 50 free tags to start using the toolset. If you need a higher capacity, please contact the Cintoo Sales Team at sales@cintoo.com.

Cintoo Cloud Administrators can see tag capacity by going to Administration > Subscriptions:

Populating your tags in Cintoo Cloud

To provide the greatest value to Asset Management in Digital Twin workflows, Cintoo provides a set of Asset Tagging & Display (ATD) tools which includes a Tag Explorer and three ways to tag your assets:

  • Manual tagging
  • And/or tagging from a CAD model
  • And/or automated tag geolocation and classification using Cintoo’s AI Engine

Tag Data Model

Cintoo Cloud’s set of ATD tools leverages an open tag data model that can be tailored to each company’s needs. You can create as many lists of tags as needed, with up to 20 custom tag metadata in each tag list. Metadata can be of any kind, including hyperlinks to your Digital Twin, ERP and EAM platforms.

In addition to the custom metadata, other attributes are assigned for each tag:

  • A unique ID:
    • When manually creating a tag, this attribute must be set by the user.
    • When importing a list of tags from a CAD model, this attribute is set automatically.
    • When using Cintoo AI Engine, a default ID will be set automatically, which the user can edit later.

  • An XYZ geolocation and bounding box:
    • The XYZ geolocation corresponds to the center of the bounding box surrounding the tag.
    • X, Y and Z are in meters in the same coordinate systems as the scans.
    • When manually creating a tag, these attributes are set when the user adjusts the bounding box around a tag.
    • When importing a list of tags, these attributes usually come with the CAD model information.
    • When using Cintoo AI Engine, these attributes are set automatically.

  • A class (type of equipment):
    • When manually creating a tag, this attribute must be set by the user.
    • When importing a list of tags from a CAD model, this attribute is usually from the CAD element properties.
    • When using Cintoo AI Engine, this attribute is set automatically among the list of classes that the user has selected before running the AI search.

The Tag Explorer

The Tag Explorer allows you to access your tag lists and the individual tags in each list in Cintoo Cloud.

Each tag has its properties (ID + metadata) listed and accessible. There are several actions possible (hide, isolate, go to…) for each. It includes the ability to select the scan vantage point that best displays this selected tag from all the scan locations that Cintoo Cloud has computed that are in direct line of sight of the tag (By default, this will be the closest scan automatically computed by Cintoo Cloud)

The Tag Explorer is accessible from the 3D VIEW and by opening it from the vertical tool bar:
